Non si vende ruso
The Paola Pezzi exhibit “Non si vende ruso” will begin June 21 at 6:00 p.m. at the Pettenasco Wood Turning Museum.
This occasion sets forth the new collaboration between the Museum and the Asilo Bianco Association of Ameno which has coordinated, together with the municipality of Pettenasco, the 2013 program aimed at promotion and appreciation of the museum.
This project aims to promote an effort towards redevelopment of the museum’s rooms to make them more useful, be it as a place dedicated to the memory of traditions or a space open to the community for meetings and expository events related to the area.
Artist Paola Pezzi and her artwork embrace the first expository project in which contemporary art and local tradition establish themselves along a single path which is open to the public until September 22. The exhibit’s name was inspired by an old phrase written inside the museum, a phrase with a very pragmatic meaning: “You do not sell waste”.
Paola Pezzi works with a variety of materials such as felt and foam rubber to create shapes – sculptures that recall the curves and grains of wood, of the sea, of the land. Her use of sinuous lines and “hot” materials somehow lend her artwork the ability to hug and integrate into the environments in which it is inserted.
Asilo Bianco’s objective is to help the memory of the wood turning museum to live on in harmony with contemporary artists and designers who discuss the striking spaces and the objects included in the collection.
The Pettenasco Museum of Art and Wood Turning is located in the old wood turning workshop along the Roggia Molinara. Following a careful original restoration, the museum is able to offer to the public an exquisite display of tools, utensils, machinery, and other objects from the old “factories” and local artisan workshops. The production of turned wooden objects was in fact a characteristic tradition of the artisanship in the Cusiano region until the fifties, and even today some firms offer products derived from this tradition in Pettenasco.
